5 Reasons Tutoring Is Worth The Price!

Tutoring rates are what they are for many reasons (travel, materials, prep time, help outside of sessions, cost of taking courses, etc.).  But here is a list of why the price is worth it for parents and more importantly for the students.

1.College courses can cost around $1,000 each

Having a tutor who can help you pass your class or achieve the grade you want can be the difference between having to pay  to retake a class or not.   Spending an extra few hundred dollars on a tutor for the semester can potentially save you money and a headache.

2. A higher SAT or ACT score will provide more scholarship options

A difference of a few points on the SAT or ACT can mean the difference of thousands of dollars of scholarships, or whether or not you are accepted into your school of choice.  Working one on one with a tutor who is well versed in these exams can lead to substantial increases in scores.

3. Learning new study skills can make a life long difference

A tutor does not only work with students on content, but also teaches them how to take control of their learning.  Study skills and habits can be applied to anything the student wishes to learn.  This means that not only will it help in other course work, but also learning things outside of academics.

4. Increased self-confidence

A tutor is able to offer scaffolding for the students which will provide students with a means to build their self-efficacy regarding their school work.  Students tend to perceive their success pertaining to academics as a part of their self-worth.  Hence, tutors can potentially help students increase their self-esteem.

5. Those with a high school diploma typically earn more

The median person with a high school diploma makes almost $200 more a week than somebody without one. Khan Academy Coaching

I offer coaching using Khan Academy for all of my regularly scheduled tutees.  Khan Academy is a great resource for all students to independently learn new material or to reinforce material they already know.

Khan Academy provides tutees with detailed tutorials on most skills they will be working on.  When students add me as a coach I am able to view their progress.  This allows me to see where each tutee is strong and where they are struggling.  I am also able to recommend certain skills to be worked on by the student.  By having students work on a skill before we meet I can utilize the data to better prepare for our next session.

Parents are also able to sign up for Khan Academy and monitor their child’s progress with the material. Here are some testimonials from parents who have utilized Khan Academy for their children.

During our first session I will typically provide students with a reference sheet for the class/material they are working on.  The reference sheet will provide students with means to find important information for their class.  It will also provide them with my contact information and information on how to sign up for Khan Academy and add me as a coach.

I believe it is my job as a tutor to not only assist in the learning of material, but to also provide students with the knowledge of how they can learn new things independently long after our sessions are over.
